PokerStars have reached a major milestone on Tuesday, dealing out their 70 billionth hand and rewarding one lucky player with a $70k prize. Over the course of a few days leading up to the said hand, the site handed out several hundreds of thousands of dollars through various promotions linked to the Mega Milestone celebration.
The historic hand came about at a $0.25/$0.50 table, where two German players were busy hacking away at each others’ stacks. Play was halted and the two players were announced that one of them would walk away with a $73,380 prize, while the other would take home $1,700. They both shoved their $25 stacks into the middle as Koenigskeba held an As, Jc and DodgeUrOuts had a Kd, 5d. The board fell Ad,4c,3s,Kh,6h giving the win to Koenigskeba together with the grand prize.
It then turned out the two protagonists had been folding hands quickly before reaching the milestone, in a bid to hit the 70 billionth hand. They weren’t paying any rake so they were basically abusing the promotion. All the railbirds were up in arms about the situation, but eventually the management came through releasing a statement in which it acknowledged the fast folding used by the two players and the fact that it was not compliant with the spirit of the promotion, but since no rules of the promotion were broken, nor any of PokerStars Terms of Service, the awarded prizes would stay with the above said players.
In other news: November Niner Matt Giannetti managed to secure a sponsor for his final table run. He will represent a company known as Fuse Science, the manufacturer of a topical anti-inflammatory gel called EnerJel. Giannetti will sit at the final table all gelled up, using a tub of the product as his card protector. According to Giannetti, EnerJel will help him stay focused at the final table, giving him a ‘healthy boost of energy’.
