The Poker Grapevine – PokerStars’ Liv Boeree Photo-shoot

PokerStars have always been right on top of the marketing game and a few days ago they proved they were still as creative and as cunning when it comes to marketing tricks as ever. They have basically taken several photos of PokerStars pro Liv Boeree playing poker through a mobile device while engaged in a series of rather un-poker-like activities like jogging, riding a bike and roller skating, while attired in some pretty skimpy outfits. While the shoot’s aim is obviously to promote PokerStars’ mobile client, one can’t help but notice the number of different angles from which it successfully engaged their target-customers.
The edgy nature of the shoot wasn’t lost on the poker public: on one of the popular
poker forums, initially polite suggestions quickly turned to photoshopped images of Boeree playing mobile poker while riding the magic dragon from Neverending Story or while slapping a nasty submission hold on her opponent in the professional wrestling ring. To make a long story short: while not all the spin-off pictures are decent enough to even mention, the shoot has obviously achieved its goal and much more.

WSOP Main Event winner Pius Heinz is definitely a fighting champion. He does not sit around content with his prize-money. He is instead taking on a selection of poker pros in a high stakes cash game hosted by the King’s Casino in Prague. The games are NL Holdem ones featuring a €100 ante and €200/€400 blinds. Tony G, Jeffrey Lisandro and Tobias Renkemeier are apparently also playing.
In still other news: New York Times blogger, poker player and statistician Nate Silver has slammed former Senator Bill Frist (yes, he of the 2006 UIGEA fame) in The Daily Show with Jon Stewart.
