In case you were wondering who the pro meant to replace Phil Hellmuth and Annie Duke at UB was, and whom Joe Sebok referred to in his blog-post in which he discussed the matter, wonder no longer: Prahlad Friedman’s name had been floated on various poker forums and in Twitter chatter during the last few days and now it is official. He signed with
UB Poker, thus making it obvious that the company did indeed look to change direction as far as its professional representation was concerned. Whether or not he’ll be able to shoulder as much load as Annie Duke and Phil Hellmuth did, remains to be seen. Hopefully, he will not have to deal with issues Duke and Hellmuth had to tide the site through.
In other news: the long-awaited
PokerStars Caribbean Adventure kicked off on Thursday. The High Rollers event is already in full swing. For those who intend to take part in the Main Event: it’s still not too late to head south and sample a little taste of the summer.
Another player has jumped on the “sell your
WSOP bracelet” bandwagon, a movement apparently initiated by Peter Eastgate’s sale of his Main Event jewelry. This time, it’s Marty Smith’s turn to toy around with the idea of parting with his WSOP gold. In the blog-post in which he announced his intentions of selling his bracelet, he also discussed how 2010 went for him and drew the line. While he lost money on poker, he says he hasn’t lost much and made most of it back through sports betting. He also says he considered a Peter Eastgate-like retirement, but unlike the Dane, he couldn’t financially afford it.
As for the bracelet: he intends to sell it for at least $10k and he will donate the resulting funds to charity.
