The Poker Grapevine – WCOOP Wraps Up

The WCOOP has stolen all the limelight for a couple of weeks at PokerStars, and on Monday, the
online poker festival has finally come to an end, with the wrapping up of its Main Event. Featuring a $5.2k buy-in, the Main Event turned out to be a playground for the top pros – as expected. With a prize-pool of $10.71k to play for, the pros were busy indeed, and when the top spots were reached, they went for a 6-way deal.
The eventual winner was Fedor Holz, who secured $1.1 million through the negotiations, to which he added a further $200k, a sum put aside for the winner through the above said deal. Thus, he ended up with some $1.3 million to his name.
Yuri Martins finished second, but his reward of $708.2k – although impressive – was not the second biggest one of the tournament.

Interestingly, the second biggest winner of the Main Event was Faraz Jaka, who finished 5th. His share of the prize-pool was $945k.
The other players involved in the deal were Claas Stoob (who finished 3rd), Elior Sion (4th) and Daniel Rudd (6th).
Viktor Blom made the top 10 of the tournament as well: he finished in 10th place, picking up a handsome $107.1k for his efforts, money which will probably end up at the cash game tables at Full Tilt.
Given its massive buy-in, the event was a truly impressive success on the part of PokerStars. Getting 2,142 players to cough up more than $5k for a poker tournament in this day and age is by all means a worthy feat.
In other news: PokerStars have parted ways with a number of their in-house pros. Marcel Luske, Joe Cada and Alex Kravchenko were the ones who lost their contracts with the poker site.
