The WPT hasn’t yet had a Maltese stop in its 9 seasons, but that is apparently about to change. The Tour will head to Malta for its 10th season, having introduced a stop that will be hosted by the casino in Portomaso.
The Main Event will feature a buy-in of €3,300 and it will unfold between September 20 and 24. Given the high-profile nature of the area where the event will be held as well as the poker friendliness of the country, participation will most probably exceed expectations. Those who decide to attend the event will get in a little bit of late summer sun on top of the poker action. The director of the tournament will be Matt Savage.
In other news: the Epic Poker League got going last week, with a pro-am event, which saw no fewer than 190 players cough up the $1,500 buy-in. The top 9 finishers in the event would all get a seat in the EPL Main Event, worth $20k. On top of that, the top 6 would also take home cash prizes. The eventual winner of the event was an amateur: Steve O’Dwyer who bested professional player Brandon Meyers heads-up. Of the ‘name’ pros, Andy Bloch was the one who finished the highest: he picked up $7.5k for his 3rd place.
The EPL’s Charity tournament made its way into the books over the weekend too. Having attracted 91 players, the event managed to raise $50k to aid the Missouri tornado victims.
In still other news: FairPlayUSA made an important addition to its board of advisors over the weekend. Mike Sexton joined
WSOP Main Event Champion Greg Raymer, former Homeland Security Secretary Tom Ridge and Perry Aftab, a renowned expert on internet security.
FairPlayUSA is an organization whose goal is to inform and educate the public as well as the lawmaking entities in regards to online poker.
