The poker grapevine – Zynga’s PokerCon

If you were having doubts about how serious social game developer Zynga truly was about its involvement with poker, toss those doubts out the window. On March 18-19, Zynga will host a convention known as the PokerCon. The Palms Resort and Casino will be the scene of the deed. The two day event will be comprised of various celebrity and poker pro appearances, parties, meet and greet opportunities with Zynga executives and a poker tournament which will likely feature a $100k+ prize-pool.
Although Zynga’s poker game developed for Facebook is not what made the company famous (Farmville and Mafia Wars are also their creations), it attracts a massive 37 million users each month. If they were to go into real money poker, Zynga would certainly be able to make some ripples in the online poker industry. Tickets for the PokerCon will be available on February 11, and they’ll cost $125, a fee which covers all the above detailed activities.

In other news: new details have emerged regarding the Bellagio chip robber. Anthony Michael Carleo had apparently not been keen on lying low with his haul in the wake of his Bellagio caper. He had reportedly given a $25k chip to a Salvation Army bell ringer and dropped bold statements about his deeds here and there, among a bunch of people to a Bellagio dealer as well. He also attempted to sell chips on one of the popular online poker forums.

A few days ago, the 2011 WSOP schedule has been made public. Yesterday, information about the exact structure of each event was released too. Those interested can now do a thorough research on events for which they may be willing to buy-in or attempt to qualify for online.
This year’s tournament structures will be entirely player-focused. In events which feature 1-hour long blinds levels for instance, players will not have to play more than 10 levels a day.
