The PokerStars Boycott and 888poker's Reaction

A couple of weeks ago, we ran a news-piece, detailing the VIP-scheme changes PokerStars had announced, changes which were set to mostly impact high-volume players and to "favor" the recreational crowd. Since - in the place of Full Tilt Poker - PokerStars has become the new top destination for high stakes action though, the site has built up quite a player-base of high-volume players, players who obviously didn't take lightly to being completely left in the cold by the planned changes. In fact, some 2,500 such players at the site decided to move past indignation and to take action against the said changes, action which took the shape of a boycott. These players have essentially stopped playing at the site, a move which already resulted in a noticeable drop in high-stakes action and an expected drop in the weekly majors. These events have created quite an opportunity for PokerStars' competitors, and 888poker have been quick to seize it: 888 have announced that during the PokerStars boycott, they would increase tournament guarantees and they would slash rake, in a rather obvious effort to lure PokerStars' "volume" players over to their tables.

The rake reduction we're talking about is a 2.5% one, meaning that the rake goes from 5% to 2.5%. The reduction is only valid for the PLO tables above the $1/$2 limit though.
The guarantee-increase has impacted quite a number of majors at the site, including but not limited to the $1k Goldfish, the $3k Super Turbo Swordfish as well as the $85k Tuesday Volcano.
Apparently, 888poker's move has already earned appreciation from a number of poker professionals, who have turned to Twitter to express their satisfaction.
