The Worst Poker Stories of 2012 – Brad Booth Meltdown

While it’s always better to only remember the good moments when looking back at the past year, it’s undeniable that there have indeed been quite a few memorable events which stood out on account of their cringe-worthiness. One such moment was tied to Brad Booth’s name. Booth has burst onto the poker scene having worked his way up from rags to riches quite literally through sheer poker skill. He has arguably reached his career peak on High Stakes Poker, with a $1 million bluff he pulled on none other than Phil Ivey. While Booth’s poker skills have never been questioned, he – like many other seemingly successful poker players – got caught up in the vile web of gambling addiction. The skills which served him so well at the green felt proved to be of no use at the casino tables and in sports betting.

His problems started with the UB cheating scandal, when he lost a substantial amount of money to scammers. His bankroll never really recovered. He struggled to make ends meet while sinking ever deeper into the marshes of gambling addiction. He ended up leaving a trail of debt across Canada and across much of the United States, stiffing creditors left and right.
It all blew up in his face this summer, when one of the players he had stiffed, Doug Polk, decided to call him out through a poker forum for having fleeced him of $30k.
Thusly unmasked, Booth broke down and he posted a YouTube video (which is no longer available to the public) in which he admitted that he was broke and that he had used his connections to feed his gambling addiction through loans. He apologized and promised to right the wrongs. Not much has been heard of him since…
