Titan Poker Not Leaving Canada After All

A while ago, Titan Poker had announced that they were set to leave the Canadian market, further restricting the markets in which the iPoker site would operate. In an interesting turn on Tuesday though, it was announced that the above said decision had been reversed and that Titan Poker would stay put in Canada, continuing its operations as normal.
The reasons listed when the first announcement regarding the withdrawal was made, included the willingness to adhere to local laws and regulations regarding online gaming. The other countries from which Titan Poker had announced their withdrawal were Finland and the Netherlands.
According to the first announcement,
Titan Poker would’ve shut down in Canada on December 22. Players had been advised to withdraw their funds before the closure of the operation.
In order to underline the firm reversal of its previously announced move, Titan Poker is now offering a special “welcome back” bonus to its Canadian players, probably fearing a mass defection as the news regarding the policy-reversal may not reach all the concerned parties in time.
The decision to stick it out in Canada has been confirmed by Titan Poker’s official Twitter account. Thus far however, there has been no real explanation regarding the sudden about-face.
Whether or not the above said “welcome back” bonus will achieve its desired effect remains to be seen as well: people may have grown wary of another possible shift in policy, especially considering the fact that
online poker is still in something of a legal grey-zone in Canada. While no laws are actually preventing people from playing, banks have been known to drag their feet on the processing of various online-gaming related transfers.
The bottom line: Titan Poker’s move – whether inspired or not – is likely to restore some player trust in the Canadian online poker market.
