Toby Lewis Wins WCOOP Event

With the WCOOP in full swing at
PokerStars, and with scores of high profile pros lining up to play, it was indeed only a question of time till one of these pros managed to make it all the way in one of the events. That pro turned out to be Britain’s Toby Lewis, who won event #6, surviving a starting field of 2,090 players and taking the top spot in the $215
NL Holdem Turbo event with rebuys.
The win was by no means a walk in the park for Lewis, who – having managed to survive thousands of opponents – found himself having to deal with a tough final table, which included players like Kenny Hicks and Russell Carson.
Given the Turbo nature of the poker tournament, it only took the field around 4 hours to play down to a winner. During the heads-up stage, which saw Lewis square off against Sergi Reixach, a deal was made, which saw both players locking up a certain percentage of the prize-pool and leaving $15k to play for. Eventually, Lewis made a full house in his final hand to send his opponent packing in second place and to lock up the title.
He took home a $189.3k prize, while Reixach was rewarded with $169.3k. Kenny Hicks put in a nice effort as well: he ended up 3rd, picking up a $115.2k prize. There were no other 6-figure winners in the tournament.
Lewis wasn’t the only Brit doing well at the WCOOP tables though. In event #5, the $320 NL Holdem one, which offered a $250k guarantee, Liv Boeree made it all the way to 5th place before bowing out. She picked up $15.5k for her efforts. Darren Elias made a deep run in that same event, but his 8th place was only worth $2.7k.
