UKIPT Galway Main Event – Alan Gold Wins

Alan Gold won the UKIPT’s Galway Main Event and what a win it was for the Scotsman: not only did he pick up the fancy
Full Tilt Poker trophy together with the €187.5k prize, he also earned free entry to all the remaining stops of the UKIPT’s 4th season.
Gold had clinched the chip lead at the end of one of the Day 1 flights and he then only briefly relinquished it on Day 2. On the last day of the tournament, he started with the biggest stack and he made it obvious from the get-go that he would settle for nothing less than victory. He adopted an ultra-aggressive stance and he locked horns with the other big stacks in direct contradiction with poker strategy recommendations, early and often.
Jonathan Slater became the first victim of the final table, about 30 minutes into the last day of action. He picked up €16.5k for his 8th place.
Local player Christy Morgan followed him to the rail in 7th, picking up a €22.3k prize.
Next to fall was Benjamin Spragg, who was followed to the rail by Damian Porebski, one of the earlier chip leaders of the
poker tournament.
Dimitri Pembroke got his last chips into the middle on an Ad,Kd and it looked like he was going to take Alan Gold’s A,10o to school without problems. The board gave his opponent a pair of 10s though and he too was out, picking up €62k for his 4th place effort.
The player whose elimination in 3rd place set up the heads-up stage of the event was Daragh Davey, whose reward was €80.4k.
Following his elimination, the remaining two players, Paul Febers and Gold duked it out for the win in a pretty un-even battle, which saw Gold take down the gold.
