Ultimate Poker Hits Major Milestone

Intra-state, fully legalized and regulated real money online poker is apparently a viable proposition after all: the other day, the first ever real money online poker operator to act completely within the law, Ultimate Poker, has reached a major milestone: it has dealt its 10 millionth real money online hand, during its brief 3-month long existence.
The milestone hand was accompanied by a promotion of course, which rewarded the winner with a meager, but symbolically quite significant prize of $5k. The milestone hand was dealt at a $0.25/$0.50 NL Holdem table, where poker pro Steven Kelly happened to be playing under the online moniker “SteveKelly”. The pot didn’t weigh much: it was just $6.85 big, but the jackpot that followed more than made up for it. Kelly was the one whose hand – a lowly A-high – turned out to be the best at the table, so he was the one picking up the lion’s share of the promotional money: $5k. All the other players at his table were rewarded too though: each and every one of them walked away with an extra $500.

While the operation has indeed been running smoothly, proving that the smaller player-pool could be corralled into a viable setup too, the tables weren’t exactly crowded when the milestone hand fell: there were around 700 real money cash game players engaged in action, a number which may not seem impressive when compared with traffic produced by sites like PokerStars or Full Tilt Poker, but which isn’t exactly bad either for a 3-month old intrastate operation.

Modeled after PokerStars’ milestone hand promotions, the Ultimate Poker 10 millionth hand was preceded by 21 mini-milestone hands, starting with the 9 millionth hand. In the end, the site has given away a total of $23k in various promotional prizes.
