Dutch poker pro Rens Feenstra’s year may not have started off in a particularly promising manner, but over the last few weeks, he has definitely turned things around and it is now certain he will finish it off with some massive profits. He just won the Unibet Open in Riga on Sunday, taking down the top prize of $103k. A few weeks ago, he won a re-entry event of the Master Classics of Poker, for a $205.8k prize, which means that he currently has more than $300k in 2013 tournament profits.
The Unibet Open’s Riga stop saw Feenstra begin the final table with the largest stack. He wasted little time putting his chips to work: he was the one who scored the first elimination of the final table, only a few hands into the final day of the
poker tournament.
Imro Sendar was the victim of this elimination. He put his tournament life onto the line with a pair of 8s, and Feenstra called him with an A,Ko for the classic coin-flip. The flop gave Feenstra a straight draw, and while the turn was no good, the river made his straight and Sendar was done. His reward was a little over $10k.
Nicolas Storm was the next one to hit the rail. His 8th place was worth $13.7k.
Anders Kjellerup was the next one to go, followed by Kristaps Bertulis. Jarkko Mammela was the next victim of the final table, sent packing by Rick Jansen, who scored a double elimination, disposing of Bertulis and Mammela in one fell swoop.
Damian Mizinski bit the dust in 4th place. Jens Hansen’s elimination in 3rd place set up the heads-up stage of the tournament.
Jansen was the one who controlled the early heads-up hostilities and at one point, he even took a 2-1 chip lead. Feenstra caught a lucky double-up though and turned the tables on his opponent. The last hand of the tournament saw Feenstra’s 10,9o best Jansen’s pocket 5s.
