It seems quite incredible, but 1,050 days after US players’ monies got stuck at
Full Tilt Poker in the wake of the Black Friday revelations, payments will finally start flowing on February 28, hopefully marking the beginning of the end to one of
online poker’s most prominent and longest-running fiascos.
The Garden City Group, the claims administration company hired by the US DoJ to handle the Full Tilt issue, has made another announcement the other day. According to the announcement, players whose accounts have been verified, and whose bank accounts have passed the preliminary testing phase, would receive an email on Monday or Tuesday (February 24 and 25), letting them know exactly how much money to expect.
The first round of payments shall kick off on Monday, February 28, a full 1,050 days after the monies were seized.
According to the GCG email, the payments would represent the full amounts of players’ Full Tilt Poker balances. If they have additional questions in regards to the refunding process, players can still turn to the GCG site or they can call a special toll-free phone number.
The news – although hardly unexpected – has elicited quite an enthused reaction through the poker world, with various “name” players taking to Twitter to express their appreciation but also their displeasure with how the whole thing was eventually handled. Loni Harwood said she welcomed the money but she could’ve used the funds a few years back when she was “flat broke in college”. Kevin Iacofano said he found it peculiar that enclosed with his funds there would be no thank you note from the US Treasury for the 4-year loan he’d essentially granted them.
Jonathan Little struck a more conciliatory tone, saying that he was just pleased to finally get his money back. Eric Rodawig was also happy to finally recover his funds.
