Van Marcus wins APPT Manila stop

Van Marcus walked away with the title and the $162k first prize from the APPT’s Manila final table, having bested Tae Jun Noh after a marathon 3-hour long heads-up battle and the longest APPT tournament in history.
The final table action itself lasted for more than 12 hours making it one of the most grueling and exhausting APPT final tables ever.

Ranier Aquino, one of the short-stacks was the first to risk his tournament life on an all-in, moving in against two callers, Tae Jun Noh and Hyoung Jin Nam. The board of 2,A,7,Q,7 was checked down all the way to the river, where Noh fired out a small bet not enough to remove Nam from the equation. As Aquino tabled an A,10 he looked in good shape against Nam’s A,4, but both of them had to yield to Noh’s 3,7 which made a set on the river. This way, it was Ranier Aquino who headed to the payout booth first from the final table.

Tae Jun Noh kept up the pressure and helped Benjie Lim find the rail next, when his A,10 got the better of Benjie’s K,J on a board which brought nothing but blanks for both of them.

Lee Nelson finished in 6th place for a prize of $21,714, when he ran his 8,8 into Hyoung Jin Nam’s A,K. The flop which fell A,2,6 put Nam in the lead, and the 7,5 on the turn and the river were of no help for Nelson.

Van Marcus saw his stack reduced to the smallest at the table as the dinner break approached. He would have none of that though, and he shoved it all-in on Q,10 only to find a caller in Michael Chang, who tabled A,10. Despite the lead he had preflop and on the flop (Q,7,A) Chang saw the tables turned on him as a second Q landed on the turn and the 8 on the river brought no change.

Ramil Tandoc was eliminated in 5th, followed by Michael Chang in 4th.
Nam busted out 3rd after he lost several big pots to Van Marcus. The heads up play between Marcus and Noh lasted for 3 hours before it came down to a final hand in which all the chips went in with Noh Holding J,8 for the top pair on a board of 8,3,6, and Marcus holding a 7,9 for the straight draw. The 10 on the turned sealed the tournament and gave Van Marcus his first APPT title.
