Vanessa Selbst Makes History Again in Big One for One Drop

Vanessa Selbst has been known as a trailblazer for her entire poker career, and at the 2014 WSOP, she came forth to make history again. The buzz has been steadily building around the Big One for One Drop, the super high-rolling tournament featuring a $1 million buy-in, and yesterday, all that exploded into a “shuffle up and deal” uttered by Antonio Esfandiari, last year’s winner of the same event. Esfandiari took home $18.34 million for his efforts, and although his presence at the tables this year was definitely a high-profile one, he was upstaged by Selbst, who became the first woman ever to play in the
poker tournament.

As said above, Vanessa Selbst is quite used to setting such records. Not long ago, she became the first ever female poker player to hit the top of the GPI (Global Poker Index)’s top 300 list. Having picked up her third bracelet at this year’s WSOP (in event #2, the $25k Mixed Max NL Holdem one), she became the first female poker player to earn more than $10 million in tournaments over her career.
All these accomplishments mean little to Selbst apparently. She is not impressed with being the first female to achieve X, Y or Z…she’s aiming to become the best poker player, period.
Indeed, these days, she is pretty darn close to accomplishing just that. Most experts do in fact already consider her as one of the best out there, and that’s “best” without the largely meaningless “female” in front of it. Selbst has been dedicated, focused and consistent, not to mention fearless when it came to putting her money onto the line.
PartyPoker has broken into the US market again as it’s looking to re-capture some of its long-lost luster with some outstanding promotions, live qualifiers and bonus deals.
