WCOOP Day 12 – Ryan D’Angelo scores second bracelet

Day 12 of the 2009 WCOOP saw a further 3 events unfold as three players earned their WCOOP bracelets. Of the three of them though, only two were first time bracelet winners. Spencerman3 and Unsyatisfied were the new kids on the WCOOP block, as Ryan “g0lfa” D’Angelo managed to secure his second bracelet in a week’s time.
Despite the fact that he won twice already, D’Angelo earned less money on his two wins than Unsyatisfied did on his win in event #28, the $1,000+$50 NL Holdem one. A living testimony to why one should never call it the day until the fat lady sings, Unsyatisfied started the heads-up stage of his event with an overwhelming chip disadvantage. He managed to fight back though and he eventually turned the tables on GAKingChaser for the win and the $513,076 prize.
The hand that represented the turning point in the heads-up battle between the two players was one in which Unsyatisfied called a preflop re-raise to see K,K,K fall on the flop, a perfect board for his K,J. He bet into his opponent who called him, to see a 9s come on the turn. Taking the initiative, GAKingChaser went all-in in response to his opponent’s bet and got called. He only had 5d,6d and dropped the pot to Unsyatisfied on the busted bluff.
From there, Unsyatisfied took over and soon the battle was over. GAKingChaser still had a handsome $382,356 payday though for his second place finish.
The other WCOOP event of the day, the $320 mixed PL Holdem and PLO event saw g0lfa rise to the occasion once again. Having already won the $320 8-game event last week, D’Angelo defeated groengras heads-up on his way to this second WCOOP title and a $69,245 payday.
The final hand of the event was a PL Omaha one which saw D’Angelo’s Q,A,10,5 top groengras’ 7,10,A,K on a board of 4,4,5,2,Q.
Groengras picked up over $50k for his second place. Other noteworthy finishes in the event were those of Kenny Hallaert who finished 10th for a modest $3,334 prize, and Neal Liptak, who finished 2nd.
The third event of the day was the $320 NL Holdem 2X Chance one, which eventually crowned another first-time winner. Spencerman3 disposed of Ginobili1988 to secure the title and the $131,819 top prize.
The final table whittled down to the last two players within about an hour. Spencerman3 hit two pairs on a board of 9,4,2,Q,A, holding Ac, 2c. He made a raise after the action was checked to him and Ginobili1988 check-raise bluffed him holding 9,5 in his pocket. The showdown awarded the pot to Spencerman3, together with the bragging rights, the bracelet and the top prize. Ginobili1988 did earn close to a six-figure prize himself. Grpoker2 came in third, for a $70k payday.
Other notable finishes in event #30 were those of Nathan Singer, who came in an unlucky 13th and Filipe Montenegro (15th).
