Weekend online poker tournament action

The last weekend of 2009 went off with a bang in the
online poker world. It was everything but an average weekend, as world records fell and players took home fabulous prizes once again to ring in the New Year in style.
For starters, PokerStars broke the record for the biggest ever online poker tournament. The $1 buy-in event attracted a starting field of 149,196 players. The winner - Oskar69 - pocketed a $50,000 prize on top of the bragging rights that came with besting the largest ever online poker tournament field in the history of the game.
The regular high-buy-in
tournaments at PokerStars, Full Tilt Poker and Ultimate Bet saw plenty of action too.
The largest prize of the week was a $213,443 one, which ended up in Larry Sharp’s pockets. He finished 2nd in the PokerStars Sunday Million, and secured the above loot after a deal was struck among the top 5 finishers.
Player “coach6999” ended up in first place, but he “only” took home $143.444.
All top 5 finishers walked away with 6-figure prizes. A total of 9,344 players coughed up the $200+$15 buy-in for this poker tournament and the prize-pool grew to $1,868,800.
The Sunday Warm-up featured the same size buy-in, but only 4,605 players showed up for this one, combining for a $921,000 prize-pool. The two top finishers struck a deal in this poker tournament too, and the winner, NinjasTyle87 took home the $129,846 top prize.
Dmmarquez finished 2nd for $121,918. Joel Dickenson finished 13th for $4,144, and Theo Tran ended up 16th for a $2,763 prize.
The Sunday 500’s $500+$30 buy-in acted as a deterrent: only 1,026 players thought it worthwhile to pay out the buy-in, which meant that the prize-pool would grow to $513,000 only.
Zackattack13 took the top prize in this one, going home $79,000 richer.
The $215 Rebuy event saw only 307 players belly up to the tables, which meant that the field would do battle for a share of a $214,400 prize-pool. The top prize in this one went to Dave Sands, who bested everyone for a $43,952 payday.
Ultimate Bet’s $200+$15 tournament attracted 966 participants. The prize-pool was a $200,000 one, the lion’s share of which went to winner BEARBEER who pocketed $44.920.
