WPT Alpha8 – Steven Silverman Wins

As the Seminole Hard Rock Poker Open’s Championship Event played down to its final table, another - potentially much more interesting – event unfolded as well: the $100k buy-in WPT Alpha8 tournament. 21 players bought in initially, and nine survivors returned on the second (and last) day of action to determine a winner. Seven levels of action went into the day, at the end of which Steven Silverman emerged as the winner, taking down the $891.6k top prize. Silverman is no stranger to high rollers: back in May, he won the EPT Monte Carlo Grand Final’s €25k High Roller, pocketing the €775.4k top prize.
What made the current win even sweeter for Silverman was the fact that he defeated none other than WSOP November Nine chip leader JC Tran heads-up.

The nine players who were at the tables at the beginning of the day, meant business from the get-go. It only took the first victim of the final table nine hands to hit the rail. Bill Perkins pushed all-in with an A,4o against Isaac Haxton’s A,8o. The board did not help Perkins and he was done.
PokerStars pro Jason Mercier got crippled by JC Tran and a few hands later, he was all-in with his tournament life on the line. He had a Jh, 10h against Daniel Alaei’s A,6o. Alaei ended up making trip 6s to send Mercier packing.

Unfortunately for him, Alaei couldn’t put the chips taken from Mercier to good use: he was the next one to be bounced, Isaac Haxton the one responsible for his demise.
Joseph Cheong was the one who followed him to the rail, sent there by Jeff Gross. Isaac Haxton’s elimination in 5th place burst the money bubble. Matt Glantz was the first player to finish in the money. Jeff Gross’ elimination in 3rd place set up the heads-up stage of the event.
