WPT Baden – Day 2 Report

75 players returned to the tables on the second day of the WPT’s Baden stop. At the end of the day, only 44 were still standing, as PartyPoker’s Bodo Sbrzesny clinched the top spot.
Sbrzesny played well all day, and in fact he had played well all through the poker tournament, but his push to the top came during level 13 on Day 2. The hand which saw him take down a massive pot was one against Erik Scheidt, in which he made a 4-card flush on the flop, before the money went into the middle. Scheidt made the call as he had pocket Ks. Unfortunately for him though, another club fell on the turn, filling up Sbrzesny’s flush and handing him the monster pot. With that haul, Sbrzesny’s stack shot past the 450k mark, but before the end of the day, he lost a few pots here and there, finishing with 403k, still in the lead.
Some of the chips he dropped ended up in Ryan O’Donnell’s possession, who finished the day with a healthy stack as well.

Martin Staszko, 2011 WSOP Main Event runner-up, finished the day among the leaders as well: he had 287.5k chips bagged at the end of it all. The player largely responsible for Staszko’s strong finish was Andrey Shatilov, who donated a major pot to him after his pair of 6s fell to Staszko’s two pair.
Day 2 claimed its fair share of “name” victims too. One of these victims was Mickey Petersen, who struggled along on a short-stack for much of the day. In the end, he pushed all-in with pocket 10s and got a call from Raul Paez, who then made a set of Qs to send him packing. Other players who failed to make the cut were Steve O’Dwyer and Jan Bendik.
