WPT Baden – Day 4 Report

The final day of the WPT’s Baden Main Event was set on day 4 of the
poker tournament. Given the pro-heavy nature of the field, it wasn’t much of a surprise that no fewer than 2 high profile players made the 6-handed final stretch of the event. Marvin Rettenmaier is the player who will have all eyes on him at the final table. The reason is a simple one: by winning this event, he may become only the 3rd player to win three WPT Main Events. The other two players are Gus Hansen and Carlos Mortensen. Rettenmaier has positioned himself well for a title run too: he will start the final table second in chips, with a stack of 1.56 million to his name.
Paul Berende made the final table on a healthy stack too. He finished 3rd with 1.3 million chips.
Kimmo Kurko, one of the previous chip leaders, made the final stretch as well: he has a little over 1 million chips.
The official short-stack of the final table is Grzegorz Wyraz, who will start with only 550k chips.
The beginning of the day saw 20 players belly up to the tables, with a clear objective in mind: to play down to the final table.
PartyPoker’s Bodo Sbrzesny, another one of the previous chip leaders, was also among the 20. His bid to reach the final table fell short however, when he pushed his chips into the middle on a Kd,3d and got a call from Berende, who had A,Ko. While the flop did give both players a pair of Ks, nothing else materialized for either of them on the board. Sbrzesny left the tournament in 11th place.
Martin Staszko was eliminated as well. He fell to Lauri Pesonen even before Sbrzesny was bounced.
