WPT Barcelona – Day 3 Report

The third day of the WPT’s Barcelona Main Event saw 42 players return to the tables, looking to play down as close to the final table as possible. Before the end of the day, that objective had nearly been completed: 13 players remained standing, but the action was called before the official final table could be set. The player finishing with by far the largest stack was Sergio Fernandez, who had 1.26 million chips bagged. That was quite a bit more than Chanracy Khun’s 838k in second place.
Fernandez started Day 3 on a pretty short stack, but he rebounded nicely and he managed to build up a massive chip lead by the final whistle.
When the action kicked off, there were only seven players with stacks shorter than Fernandez.
The Spaniard got off to a phenomenal start though: he picked up some pocket Ks early and he managed to triple up with them to get his hands on some much-needed ammo. He didn’t stop there either: he chipped up massively again, at Bryn Kenney’s expense. In the said hand, Fernandez just kept raising, eventually forcing his opponent to muck his hand, leaving quite a number of chips in the pot. Later on, Fernandez was the one who sealed Kenney’s
poker tournament fate, his pocket rockets making short work of the American’s K,Jo. That pot pushed Fernandez’s stack over the 800k chip mark.
Atanas Gueorguiev was the one who donated some more chips to him later, allowing him to push past the 1 million chip mark.
Fernandez had pocket 6s against Gueorguiev Q,10, and his hand held. Other name players who fell victim to the Spaniard’s late run were Kevin Vandersmissen and Timothy Harold.
None of the other players managed to accumulate more than 1 million chips.
