360 players bellied up to the tables on the second day 1 flight of the WPT’s Bay 101 Shooting Star. Among the starters, there were no fewer than 25 “shooting stars”, professional players with a bounty of $2.5k on their heads. Day 1B’s yield brought the player total for the
poker tournament to 635, making it the largest ever Bay 101 WPT event. Given that registration will remain open until the beginning of Day 2, that number may in fact still go up.
10 levels of action went into the second day 1 flight, at the end of which Rhea Motley emerged with the largest stack. She had 243.1k chips bagged. Steven Kelly finished the day in second with 133.5k chips.
Jesse Yaginuma and Taylor von Kriegenbergh made the top 10 as well, finishing in 6th and 7th places respectively. Danny Wong brought up the rear of the top 10 with 161.3k chips to his name.
The addition of the shooting stars provided a nice spark to the action on Day 1B too: within the first two levels, both Dan Shak, the current GPI player of the year, and Bertrand Grospellier bit the dust. Grospellier elected to re-buy and he eventually finished the day behind a pretty decent-sized stack.
Ryan Eriquezzo was eliminated as well during the third level. He got his last chips into the middle with A,Jo against Noah Vaillancourt’s pocket 9s. No help came on the board for him and he was sent to the rail.
While Eriquezzo didn’t carry a bounty, Tom Marchese did, and he found himself on the brink of elimination early on too. Fortunately for him, he managed to quadruple up and then doubled up a few more times to shoot right back into the mix.
