WPT Bay 101 Shooting Star – Moon Kim Wins

On Friday, 6 players returned to decide the fate of the WPT’s Bay 101 Shooting Star title, 6 of an initial starting field of 364 players. The battle would be a pitched one, after all, there was a top prize of $960.9k at stake, the winner’s share of the prize-pool. Erik Cajelais was the one who started the day with the largest stack, but his 3.6 million did in no way render him immune to even the early give and take of the final table. It took no fewer than 113 hands for the first victim to finally hit the rail. Short-stack Joe Elpayaa held on as long as he could, but Andrew Badecker eventually managed to cripple him, putting him in a do or die position. Elpayaa shoved all-in on an Ac, 6c and got a call from Badecker, who had a K,Jo. The flop rattled off another J to give Badecker a pair, after which Elpayaa failed to find any help on the turn or the river.

Badecker himself would become the next victim. He got it all-in on an A,K against Moon Kim’s pocket 4s in a classic coin-flip and he did indeed catch an A on the flop for the top pair, but unfortunately for him, the other 2 cards on the flop were 5 and 2, and a 3 landed on the turn to give Kim a straight and eventually the win. Erik Cajelais busted out next, going from hero to zero in about 170 hands. Cajelais met his doom at the hands of Ubaid Habib, who made it all the way to the heads-up stage. Joe Serock came out on the losing end of yet another coin-flip, after his pocket 9s fell to Kim’s Kc,Qc. The heads-up action between Habib and Kim lasted for 36 hands. The final hand of the poker tournament saw Kim’s Jd,7d hit a flush against Habib’s Q,9o. The runner-up picked up $570.2k for his efforts.
