WPT Borgata Poker Open – Darren Elias Wins

The poker world has long been familiar with Darren Elias’ name. The poker pro has been in the news for various smaller and bigger scores, but his latest caper has managed to overshadow everything he had previously accomplished: he has just won the WPT’s Borgata Poker Open, taking down the top prize of $843.7k.
The final table of the
poker tournament kicked off on Friday, with 6 survivors from an original starting field of 1,226 returning to the action.
Elias had made two more WPT final tables before this one, so one may say that he pretty much had it coming.
The final table was a shrewd affair for Elias, who let one of his opponents, Kane Kalas, do all the work for him. Kalas busted four players on his way to the heads-up confrontation with Elias, after which the latter busted him for the win.

Despite his stellar final table run, Kalas, who is the son of Harry Kalas, the sportscaster of the Philadelphia Phillies, had to settle for second place, and for a not-too-shabby payday of $500.3k.
Jose Serratos finished third, for $308k, while Aaron Overton collected $259k for his 4th place finish.
Ray Quartomy finished last at the final table. His reward was $174.6k. The first victim of the final table, Quartomy was sent packing by Kalas, whose pocket rockets got the best of his A,Jo.
On the very next hand, Kalas woke up with pocket rockets yet again. He found another player willing to put his tournament life onto the line too: Blake Bohn had picked up pocket Qs and he shoved.
The final hand of the heads-up stage of the poker tournament saw Elias’ K,4o triumph over Kalas’ A,Ko.
