WPT Borgata Poker Open – Day 1B Report

The second and last day 1 flight of the 2012 WPT Borgata Poker Open has set the record straight in regards to the total size of the starting field and the prize-pool. Having yielded 807 registrants, Day 1B set the field size to 1,181 and the prize-pool to $3,897,300. What that means is that the eventual winner will end up taking home $818k. The provisional chip leader at the end of day 1B was Brian Lemke, who finished the day with a stack of 272.5k chips. Lemke is a regular in Atlantic City and he’s well known in poker circles on account of the WSOP bracelet which he won in 2009. He played well through day 1B and in the end topped his stack off with a massive pot he took down at the end of a busted bluff. The board read A,K,5,A,K rainbow and an opponent of his fired out a bet. Lemke had Q,9 for little more than thin air, but his opponent had even less: 10d, 9d.

A total of 8 levels were squeezed into the day, at the end of which several ‘name’ competitors found themselves on the outside looking in. Barry Shulman was one of the earlier casualties of the day. He was joined on the rail by Christian Harder, Michael Beasley and Amanda Musumeci. Musumeci found the rail during the 7th level of action. The blinds were at 200/400 with a 50 chip ante and Musumeci put all her chips into the middle on a pair of 10s. An opponent called her with pocket Qs and the flop immediately gave him another one for the trips. Musumeci failed to recover and she was out of the poker tournament. Matt Glantz on the other hand managed to advance, together with Kyle Bowker and Matt Salzberg. Joe Cada also made the cut as did Jesse Sylvia and Josh Brikis. 465 players managed to advance on Day 1B in addition to the 200 who earned their Day 2 seats on Day 1A.
