WPT Borgata Poker Open – Day 2 Report

With the two Day 1 flights out of the way, 786 survivors bellied up to the tables on the second day of the WPT’s Borgata Poker Open. Abe Korotki was the one leading the field with a stack of 260.1k chips. At the end of the day, of the 786 players only 170 remained. David Williams, who started the day on a pretty healthy stack too, clinched the chip lead when the dust settled. Williams was the only one who managed to push his stack past the 700k chip mark. Several ‘name’ players had excellent runs though and therefore many of them finished with more than healthy stacks. Maurice Hawkins sits behind Williams in the counts, followed by Eric Haber, David Diaz and Darren Elias. Erik Cajelais finished near the top too.

Vanessa Selbst flirted with the top position for the better part of the day too, but she took a nasty hit to her stack courtesy of John DeAgostino and she faded back into the field. She finished the day with around 300k chips. Of course, given how many ‘name’ players were in the start of the day field, it was only natural that quite a few of them should bust out. Ali Eslami, Hasan Habib and Gavin Smith were among those eliminated, together with Christian Harder and Allen Cunningham. Maria Ho and Matt Matros didn’t find the going easy either and they too bowed out.
Jason Young decided to commit the last of his chips on a pair of 5s he picked up. Alex Queen made the call though and tabled a dominating pair of 7s. The board did land a pair of 10s, but other than that, none of the two hands concerned were impacted in any way.

Day 3 of the event will see the money bubble burst. Set for 100th place, the bubble will see 70 more players go home empty-handed before it bursts.
