WPT Borgata Poker Open – Day 3 Report

Day 3 of the WPT’s 2011 Borgata Poker Open carried special significance, because the money bubble was supposed to burst that day. 170 players returned to the tables at the beginning of the day, and when the dust settled - the money bubble a distant memory - it was Will Failla who led the pack with a stack of 3.2 million chips.

The money bubble was set to 100th place and it burst during level 21. David Williams and Mark Bramley were the two players who locked horns in the hand which resulted in the bouncing of the last player to leave the tournament empty-handed. The board read K,J,9,10,J and Bramley had an A,Q for the Broadway straight so he was definitely shoving all-in. Unfortunately for him, Williams had pocket K’s which gave him a full house with the paired board, and fair or not, Bramley was eliminated.
The bursting of the money bubble loosened up the action and players began busting out left and right, among them notables Eric Haber, who bit the dust in 67th place, David Diaz – who made it to 65th, and Jeff Madsen in 60th.
John D’Agostino, John Racener, Yevgeniy Timoshenko and David Williams found the rail one by one too.

Chris Martin and Jesse Cohen locked horns in the hand which resulted in the last elimination of the day. Martin had pocket Js against Cohen’s K,10. The board fell a bunch of bricks which didn’t hit either player and Cohen was bounced, setting up the Day 4 starting field.
Vanessa Selbst, who had played well through the entire tournament survived to day 4, together with John Cernuto, Matt Glantz and Darren Elias. The shortest stack on Day 4 will be Jin Hwang, who finished with a little over 300k chips. Will Failla was the only player who managed to break above the 3 million chip mark. Everyone moving on to day 4 is guaranteed a $18k+ minimum payout.
