WPT Borgata Poker Open – Day 3 Report

174 players returned to the tables on Day 3 of the WPT’s Borgata Poker Open. The first objective for the day for each and every one of these players was to survive the money bubble. Only 110 players managed to fulfill that objective though, and with the money bubble out of the way, the field then proceeded to play down to the final 27. Patrick Eskandar managed to clinch the chip lead at the end of the day, having built a stack of 2.9 million chips.
Eskandar isn’t exactly a household name when it comes to live tournament action, although he has had his moments in the past: he finished 20th in the 2010 WSOP Main Event and he finished 49th in the WPT’s Festa Al Lago Championship Event that same year.
Given the pro-laden nature of the
poker tournament, Day 3 saw several ‘name’ players bust out short of the money. Matt Glantz was among these players, together with Barry Greenstein, Alexander Queen and Josh Brikis.
Bobby Oboodi busted out just before the bubble as well. He put his tournament life onto the line with pocket 9s two spots off the money and he got called by a player with pocket rockets. Needless to say, he failed to catch up and the bubble was reached. Albert Smith was the next player to bust out, thus becoming the official bubble-boy of the event.
Smith shoved all-in preflop with an A,Ko against an opponent’s A,Qo. His opponent caught a Q on the turn to eliminate him.
With the money bubble out of the way, the action loosened up and scores of players began hitting the rail. Dwyte Pilgrim was among those ushered out past the bubble. Allen Cunningham and David Pham also busted during this stage of the event.
Ari Eibhum was the last player to be sent to the rail, before the day was called.
