WPT Caribbean – Day 4 Report
Posted by: Randy Williams - Sun, 2013-11-24 10:11
The objective for the 4th day of the WPT’s $3.2k Main Event was a simple one: the remaining 11 players had to play down to the 6-handed final table, and that’s exactly what they did, in just two levels. Only 5 players needed to be bounced, and the first one of the victims was sent packing by Dunst, who eventually ended up with the chip lead going into the final day.
Dunst was in the cut-off, and he mounted an attack against Thomas Laviano’s Big Blind. The two players saw a flop of Ah, 9d, 7h hit the board. Dunst kept betting and Laviano kept calling, until all his chips were in the middle.
It turned out that Dunst had a pair of 9s for the set, against Laviano’s A,3o. No help came for Laviano on the turn or the river and he was out.
The next player to be sent packing was Ebony Kenney, who bit the dust in 10th place, picking up $10.5k. James Joyner was eliminated too, in 9th place, rewarded with $14.3k for his efforts.
Next, it was Bobby Oboodi’s turn to bite the dust. He was eliminated in 8th place by Robert Bakker, on a pocket Qs vs A,Jo match-up. Oboodi had the Qs and thus the early advantage, but Lady Luck had different plans for him: the flop gave his opponent a pair of Js and when another J landed on the river, it was all she wrote for Oboodi in the
poker tournament.
The player who ended up as the final table bubble-boy was Jean-Nicolas Fortin, who got his last chips into the middle on an Ah, 7h. Dunst made the call with an As, 10s and the race was on. The flop was all bricks, but the turn gave Dunst a pair of 10s. The river sealed the deal, and the televised final table was set.
