WPT Caribbean – Tony Dunst Wins

The WPT’s Caribbean Main Event wrapped up on Sunday on St Maarten, having played down to its winner. The player who walked away with the top prize of $145k was Tony Dust, one of the notables who had made their way to the final table the previous day. Dunst bested a final table which wasn’t easy at all to navigate: Marvin Rettenmaier had made the home stretch of the event too, together with Robert Bakker and Giacomo Fundaro.
The first victim of the day was Bakker. He got his last chips into the middle on the river of a board which had given him a set of Aces on the flop. Unfortunately for him, the river card gave Dunst a flush, and he was done. Bakker picked up $28.7k for his 6th place.
Zoltan Purak followed him to the rail in 5th place. Purak pushed all-in with a pair of 8s and he got called by Tony Dunst, who had an Ac, Qc. Purak led most of the way, but a Q on the river put an end to that. Purak’s reward was $35.9k.
The next player to fall was Marvin Rettenmaier himself. On his final hand, he was all-in with a Jh, 8h. Severin Schleser made the call, with an A,Jo. Rettenmaier didn’t stand much of a chance from the get-go and indeed, the board did nothing to help him. He picked up $46.8k.
Severin Schleser, one of the earlier chip leaders, was the next to fall. He was sent packing by Tony Dunst, whose A,Ko made short work of his A,Qo.
At the beginning of the heads-up stage of the
poker tournament, Dunst had a massive advantage over Giacomo Fundaro. Fundaro did fight back, doubling up only a few hands into the bout, but eventually, he was forced to succumb to the pressure. Fundaro’s share of the prize-pool was $100k.
