WPT Copenhagen – Day 3 Report

Day 3 of the WPT’s Copenhagen Main Event would see the money bubble burst. 45 players returned to action, and they successfully played down to the final 18. Stanislav Barshak finished what was probably the penultimate day of the poker tournament with the largest stack: 830k chips.
Not a stranger to high-profile tournament poker, Barshak started the day on the right foot: he took down a massive pot, off Joseph Mertz. The hand was a typical perfect hand: both players flopped sets, but one was higher than the other. Mertz had a set of 3s while Barshak had a set of 9s. Obviously, there was no getting away for Mertz. The pot gave Barshak’s stack a massive push.
The official bubble-boy of the event was Ramaneetharan Selvanajagam, who busted out during the 15th level, at the hands of Jan Djerberg. Selvanajagam actually managed to get his last chips in good, holding a J,10o. Djerberg had Jh, 5h and he proceeded to hit a pair of 5s on the river for the elimination.

In the wake of the bubble, the action obviously gathered steam and it eventually claimed Sergii Baranov’s tournament life. Baranov had started the day as one of the chip leaders, but by that stage, the majority of his stack was gone. He busted out shortly after the bubble had burst, at the hands of Bircan Cakar. Baranov was the one who pushed all-in on a flop of K,10,4. Cakar made the call, tabling pocket 10s for the set. Baranov had an A,K for the top pair - top kicker and he failed to improve on the turn and the river.
Steve O’Dwyer was also among the survivors at the end of the day. He finished on a short stack though. Alexander Petersen was the last player eliminated on Day 3.
