The WPT’s Copenhagen Main Event is finally in the books and the player who took down the title together with the top prize, was Emil Olsson. Olsson bested Morten Klein heads-up, to claim the DKK 1.2 million prize and a seat in the WPT’s upcoming championship event at the Bellagio, which is slated to take place in the spring of 2013. The seat alone is worth $25k.
The last day of the
poker tournament saw 6 players return to the tables. Olsson had the largest stack, while Klein was the official short-stack of the final table.
The first player to bite the dust was Jan Djerberg. He fell victim to Philip Jacobsen, the player who started off the final table on the right foot, asserting his control through aggression. Djerberg had his last chips in the middle with an A,9o against Jacobsen’s pocket 10s, which held.
Robin Ylitalo followed Djerberg to the rail. Ylitalo pushed his last chips into the middle with K,Qo against Steve Barshak’s pocket Ks.
Barshak couldn’t really enjoy the chips he had picked up off Ylitalo for long though. He was the next player to fall, at the hands of Emil Olsson. Barshak’s elimination set up the 3-handed stage of the game.
Olsson then proceeded to take care of Jacobsen, by hitting a runner-runner flush to take a huge flop off him, leaving him with only a few blinds to fend for himself. Morten Klein then swooped in, picking up the leftovers, sweeping Jacobsen out of the event and securing his spot in the heads-up stage of the event.
Jacobsen picked up $93k for his 3rd place finish.
The heads up battle between the start of the day chip leader and the short-stack lasted for about an hour. The last hand of the event saw Olsson’s pocket Ks best Klein’s K,9o.
