WPT Doyle Brunson Five Diamond $100k High Roller – Brian Rast Wins

With all the limelight focused on the WPT’s Doyle Brunson Five Diamond World Poker Classic Main Event, it was easy to miss the $100k High Roller, which saw a starting field of only 22 players belly up to its tables. On Tuesday, the
poker tournament went into the books, with Brian Rast’s victory. Rast picked up almost $1.1 million for his efforts, thus taking his lifetime tournament profits over the $5.8 million mark.
Needless to say, the entrants were pretty much all high profile professional players, and given the shallow nature of the starting field, only 3 of them got paid in the end.
Antonio Esfandiari - ejected from the Main Event - was looking for some vindication in the high roller, but unfortunately for him, he found none. He was bounced in 9th place, well outside of the money. Marvin Rettenmaier played too and although he fared a tad better than Esfandiari, he didn’t make the money either: he was bounced in 7th place. Justin Bonomo was one of the players who were forced to go home with the proverbial wooden spoon too: he was eliminated in 6th place. Chris Klodnicki followed him in 5th. The bubble-boy was Jean-Norel Thorel, who was sent packing in 4th place. The one who bounced him was the eventual winner: Brian Rast.
The first player to make the money was Roger Sippl, who picked up $433.4k for his 3rd place. Sippl’s elimination left Erik Seidel to go heads-up with Rast for the title. Even though he was doubtlessly the more experienced of the two remaining players, Seidel eventually fell short, picking up $650.1k, not a shabby haul after all.
For Rast, this win was the third significant one of his career. He took down 6-figure prizes in two
WSOP 2011 events.
