WPT Doyle Brunson Five Diamond – Day 5 Report

The objective for the 5th day of the WPT’s Doyle Brunson Five Diamond World Poker Classic was a clear one: to play down to the 6-handed final table. When the dust settled at the end of the day, that was exactly what had been achieved. 21 players showed up at the tables at the beginning of the day and only 6 remained in the end, with Dan Smith having bagged the biggest stack of chips. Smith finished the day with 3.72 million chips.
Besides him, two other high-profile notables made the final table cut too, although they both finished on the lower end of the final table chip count. Joe Serock will kick off the final stage of the poker tournament behind a stack of 1.61 million chips, while Eddy Sabat will do the same with 1.54 million chips.
The official short-stack of the final table is Barry Hutter, who has 1.26 million chips to his name.

When the action got going at the beginning of the day, all eyes were on chip leader Jean-Robert Bellande, who looked strong and pretty much a lock to make the final table. Unfortunately for him, Bellande was forced to pack up and leave in 10th place, bounced by Dan Smith, after his K,Qo fell to the latter’s A,Ko.
Well before Bellande’s demise though, tons of high profile pros bit the dust. Dan Martin was bounced in 19th place, followed by Will Failla in 18th and Steven Silverman in 16th. Dan O’Brien and Zachary Clark were bounced during this stage of the event too.
Following Bellande to the rail was Christian Harder in 9th place. Antonio Lafosse was the next one to go home. The final table bubble-boy was Curt Kohlberg, whose 7th place was worth $134.5k.
