WPT Festa Al Lago – Day 4 report

41 players showed up to play on day 4 of the WPT’s Festa Al Lago stop. Steve O’Dwyer was the one who started the day with the largest stack of chips, but not only did he lose his lead by the end of the day, he lost his tournament life as well. Guilty for O’Dwyer’s demise was Annette Obrestad, who thanks largely to O’Dwyer’s chips, became the day 4 chip leader.
The blinds were at 4,000/8,000 when, following a preflop give and take between Obrestad and O’Dwyer, the flop fell Ac,8h,2c. O’Dwyer checked, Obrestad bet 65,000 and O’Dwyer made the call to see the As land on the turn. Once again O’Dwyer checked and Obrestad threw another 140k into the pot. The 5c on the river was followed by yet another check from Dwyer, in response to which Obrestad shoved all-in. Dwyer took about 5 minutes to make a decision, and eventually mucked his cards, giving up the pot.
At that point in the
poker tournament, Jeff Madsen held the chip lead, but that would soon change as Obrestad was not done bouncing people yet. Ronald Lee was her next victim. The chips went into the middle on a flop of 8h,4h,2c, and Obrestad tabled K,K, dominating Lee’s pocket Js. The turn and the river brought no relief for Lee and Obrestad shot straight into the chip lead thanks to his chips. She kept adding to her stack through the day while maintaining her chip lead and she eventually finished with 2 million chips.
Andy Frankenberger finished in 2nd place, 200k behind the leader.
O’Dwyer wasn’t the only large stack to bust on day 4. He was joined on the rail by fellow Day 3 large-stack, Andreas Hoivold. Barry Greenstein and Daniel Alaei were also eliminated on Day 4.
