At the WPT’s Festa Al Lago final table, Randal Flowers took care of business – in more ways than one. He never lost his composure and sense of humor all through the
poker tournament, yet when it was crunch-time, he proved he was a worthy title contender. Of the 5 players who bellied up with him to the WPT’s Festa Al Lago final table, 4 saw their tournament lives wasted at his hands. When it was all said and done, Flowers, aged 22, emerged as the youngest player ever to win more than 1 WPT titles (he had acquired his first one last season, in the WPT’s Spanish Championship event).
Skip Wilson, the first casualty of the final day of action was the only player not eliminated by Flowers. Wilson picked up $112k for his 6th place, heading to the rail courtesy of Michael Benvenuti.
Andy Frankenberger was another player fighting for his second WPT title, but sadly for him, his bid ended at Flowers’ hands in 5th place.
Frankenberger’s elimination provided Flowers with plenty of ammo to take care of his remaining opponents and he wasn’t thrifty with the buckshot. First, he knocked out Jason Koon, then proceeded to make Noah Schwartz’s life miserable. Schwartz picked up $345k for his 3rd place.
The heads-up action between Flowers and Benvenuti would be a no-contest. Flowers had 9.3 million chips against Benvenuti’s 4.1 million stack. It only took Flowers 14 hands to dispose of Benvenuti and to pick up the $831k for his win. The final hand of the heads-up confrontation saw a preflop raise from Flowers called by Benvenuti. The flop fell 9s,6c,5s and the chips went all-in on both sides. Flowers then showed 9,3 for the top pair, against Benvenuti’s spade flush draw which never filled up.
