WPT Five Diamond World Poker Classic – Day 4 Report

The 4th day of the WPT’s Five Diamond World Poker Classic hosted by the Bellagio saw the field thin down to the final 22. Antonio Esfandiari started the day with the biggest stack and when the dust settled, he was still in the lead.
60 players returned to the tables at the beginning of the day, most of them “name” competitors. The first milestone of the day was of course the money bubble. 6 players needed to bite the dust before the bubble burst, so the early action was quite tight. Ken Aldridge and Roland Israelashvili were both forced to head home empty-handed. Israelashvili was in fact the official bubble-boy of the
poker tournament.
With the money bubble out of the way, the action gathered some much-needed momentum. Lee Markholt and Chino Rheem were among the victims of this post-bubble rush.
Steve Gross, Will Failla and Dan Shak made it a little further, but they didn’t get to see the end of the day either.
Tony Dunst made it all the way to 27th place, but eventually he too was forced to toss in the towel.
Phil Galfond bit the dust around this stage too. The one responsible for his elimination was Jeremy Kottler, the Day 1 chip leader. The two got their stacks into the middle before the flop. Galfond had pocket Ks against Kottler’s pocket 10s and he was indeed in good shape, especially when another K fell on the turn. Unfortunately for him, that same K gave his opponent a straight draw which filled up on the river, and he was out.
The last player to be sent to the rail on the day was Frank Rusnak. Greg Mueller and Freddy Deeb both made the cut.
