The final 6 players reconvened on Tuesday at the Foxwoods at the official World Poker Finals final table, to play down to a winner. After about 8 hours of green felt hostilities and 200 hands, the winner was crowned, and the $449.9 top prize had finally found an owner.
Eli Berg managed to elude elimination the previous day, despite the fact that he’d started as the short stack. This time, he was the second shortest stack and he failed to wiggle his way out of an early elimination. Berg initiated the action in his final hand, before a K,7,7 flop dropped. Andy Frankenberger, the shortest stack was also involved, together with Christian Harder. Berg made a c-bet past the flop and Frankenberger got out of the way. Harder made the call to see the 10d drop on the turn. Berg checked and Harder made a bet in response to which, Berg shoved all-in. He had K,Q but Harder’s pocket rockets had him with his back against the wall. The 7h on the river sealed the deal.
Frankenberger may have gotten out of harm’s way that time, but he was the next one to hit the rail. Christian Harder was the one responsible for his elimination too.
Steve Brackesy started the day as the chip leader, but by the time first blood had been drawn, his stack had lost quite a bit of its start of the day luster. He was the next one to hit the rail in 4th place. Santoro was the one who sent him packing, a none-too-shabby $129k consolation prize in his pocket.
Once he got going, Santoro just wouldn’t slow down: he did away with Bob Carbone in 3rd place to set up the heads-up stage.
The final hand of the event featured a classic coin-flip: Santoro’s A,K went up against Harder’s pocket 10s and earned an online poker-like K on the river to put an end to the hostilities.
