WPT Foxwoods World Poker Finals – Day 3 Report

27 players survived the 3rd day of the 2011 WPT Foxwoods World Poker Finals among them Andy Frankenberger, who managed to clinch the lead. The field is now within sight of the $450k top prize, and the battle is fiercer than ever. Frankenberger had an excellent day and he bagged a monster-stack of 658k chips. Jack Schanbacher, who finished second, only had 483k chips to his name. Given the high profile nature of the starting field it didn’t come as a surprise that several ‘name’ players were among the 27 survivors. Jonathan Little was one of them. Cornel Cimpan, Hoyt Corkins, Matt Glantz and Bernard Lee will return on Day 4 too.
Frankenberger had the largest stack at the beginning of day 3 and he took full advantage of his position. He knocked out several players through the day, among them Alan Sternberg, a WPT champion. The hand in question saw the chips moved into the middle on a board of J,6,2,J. Frankenberger had Kc,Jc for the J trips, while Sternberg had pocket rockets from which he simply couldn’t get away. Instead of an A falling on the river, another J came to give Frankerberger quads.

The list of the day 3 casualties grew more impressive by the hour. Dwyte Pilgrim bit the dust on day 3 too, together with Erik Seidel, Jason Mercier, Jeff Forrest and Chris Tryba. In his final hand, Mercier locked horns with Andy Rossi, shoving all-in on the turn of a board of 9,6,2,4 rainbow. Mercier tabled pocket rockets and Rossi had 9h, 6h for the two pair and the win.
The money bubble burst on Day 3 too: Alistair Melville was the one who earned the unfortunate honors. Matt Stout was partly responsible for his demise, as he had crippled him before Christian Harder moved in for the kill.
Melville’s elimination signaled the end of the action for the day.
