WPT Grand Prix de Paris – Day 1B Report

The Aviation Club de France saw 92 players cough up the €7.5k buy-in and belly up to the tables on the second day of the WPT’s Main Event. A total of 5 levels of action went into the day, at the end of which 74 players remained standing. The one who finished the day with the largest stack was Hicham Hilmi, who had 111,050 chips bagged. Hilmi was in fact the only player who managed to climb over the 100k chip mark. Lars Stefan Olofsson finished second, with 75k chips.
Day 1B being the final Day 1flight, set the number game straight too: a total of 171 players bought into the poker tournament, of whom 132 advanced to day 2.
Those eliminated will be able to re-buy, until Day 2 kicks off, so a few additional buy-ins may yet end up in the middle.

The chip leader picked up the majority of his chips during the latter stages of the day, when he locked horns with Yossi Ifregan and Sean Jazayeri in a 3-way pot. Hilmi was lucky enough to have picked up pocket rockets in a hand in which two players pushed all-in with A,9o and A,Qo. The best preflop hand held, and Hilmi scored a double elimination, adding a massive chunk of chips to his stack.
The above feat wasn’t the only impressive one of the leader’s day: he was the one who managed to bounce Jeff Rossiter too. The hand which saw the Aussie pro’s poker tournament fate sealed started out as a 3-way one too. The third guy eventually got out of the way, as Rossiter and Hilmi pushed all their chips into the middle. Rossiter initiated the move with a two pair, but he never really stood any chance against Hilmi’s middle set.
Steve O’Dwyer, John Juanda, Matt Salsberg and Dave Ulliott advanced to Day 2 too.
