WPT Jacksonville Fall Poker Scramble – Jared Jaffee Wins

The WPT’s Jacksonville Fall Poker Scramble is finally in the books and its winner is Jared Jaffee, the pro who started the final table with the largest stack. Although he’d already had two WPT final table presences under his belt before his Jacksonville win, Jaffee had never managed to go all the way. The third time was the charm for him though: he bested the 358-player starting field and he picked up the $252.7k top prize.
Jaffee started the final table with a massive stack which was at least twice as big as that of the second place man at that stage.
6 players returned to the tables on the last day of action, with one clear objective: to play down to a winner. The first elimination of the day came about relatively fast: Johnny Price got all his chips into the middle with a pair of 10s and he was snapped off by Jaffee who had pocket rockets. Lady Luck had no nasty surprises in store for the eventual winner and Price walked away with $47.4k for his 6th place.
Corrie Wunstel was the next victim to hit the rail. Bounced by Jaffee, Wunstel’s 5th place was worth $59.3k.
Margo Costa was sent packing next, the one guilty for her elimination: Blake Purvis. With Costa’s elimination, the chances of a woman winning a WPT open event for the first time went up in smoke again. Costa picked up $79.1k for her 4th place.
Bounced in 3rd place, Michael Horchoff became the first player to cross the $100k mark prize-wise. He picked up $106.9k, and through his elimination, he set up the heads-up stage of the event too, between Jaffee and Purvis.
The final hand of the
poker tournament saw Purvis’ pocket rockets fall to Jaffee’s 4h,2h. Purvis picked up $166.1k for his second place.
