WPT Jacksonville Open – Day 2 Report

129 players returned to the tables on the second day of the WPT’s Jacksonville Open, looking to play down to the money-bubble and then to somehow wiggle past it. Set for 37th place, the bubble was a rather illusive target indeed, but it was reached and it was burst too, as only 25 players were still standing at the end of the day. Matt Glantz, Harrison Gimbel and Allen Kessler were among those eliminated well before the money bubble.
Kessler put his
poker tournament life onto the line during level 12, when he picked up an A,10o in the hijack and decided to shove all-in on it. Steven McKoy was on to his little ploy though and he made the call with pocket Qs. The match-up far short of a coin-flip, McKoy’s starting hand was indeed the better one and it held up nicely, sending Kessler packing.
Ian O’Hara was the beneficiary of a pretty unique reward: having become the last player under 21 still in contention after Alan Percal’s elimination, he picked up a customized surfboard. He couldn’t enjoy his tournament presence much longer though: he bit the dust shortly thereafter.
Jonathan Little and Joe Serock were sent to the rail as well, leaving the event with nothing to show for their efforts whatsoever. Brian Hastings, Will Failla, Tommy Vedes and Shannon Shorr joined them as well.
The official bubble-boy of the tournament was Talesh Patel, who got ganged up on in his last hand. He shoved all-in preflop and no fewer than 4 players teamed up against him, making the call and checking it down all the way to eliminate him in 37th place.
David Diaz took a massive leap towards the top during that stage of the action, by picking up a monster pot from John Dollinger.
