WPT LA Poker Classic – Day 3 Report

The third day of the WPT’s LA Poker Classic carried special significance: it was the day the money bubble would be reached and the winners would be separated from the losers. A total of 162 players returned to the tables at the beginning of the day, all of them looking to make the final 63. In the end, the action was called right after the money-bubble burst. The player who finished the day with the largest stack was Jeremy Ausmus, the only one in the field who managed to climb past the 1 million chip mark.
Ausmus brought a 225k stack to the tables at the beginning of the day, and he started off on the wrong foot, dropping quite a few chips before he managed to catch a break. It happened at the end of the first level when he managed to land a set and he milked it to its full potential. The ice thusly broken, he embarked on a meticulous stack-building spree which lasted for the rest of the day.
Unlike Ausmus, Jennifer Tilly had a tough day and she ended up on the rail, together with quite a few other “name” players: Maria Ho, Farzad Bonyadi, Dwyte Pilgrim and Eli Elezra all failed to make it through the day. Joe Tehan and Brandon Cantu didn’t fare much better either.
Phil Laak was all-in and at-risk on the money bubble but he managed to catch a flush on the river and he doubled up nicely, finishing with a stack well above the average.
The official bubble-boy of the
poker tournament was Arlo Dotson, who was eliminated by Sam Razavi in 64th place.
Paul Volpe and Jennifer Harman both advanced to Day 4. Scott Seiver, Joe Hachem and Jesse Sylvia made the cut too.
