WPT LA Poker Classic – Day 4 report

The 63 players who returned to the tables on the 4th day of the WPT’s LA Poker Classic were all relaxed knowing that every one of them was guaranteed a minimum cash of $22,230. Whatever happened, they would not go home empty-handed. The objective of the day was for the field to play down to the final 18, setting up 2 tables for the 5th day.
The field didn’t disappoint the organizers this time around either, and by the 23rd level, the above said objective had been achieved. Nikolay Evdakov was the one whose elimination in 19th place prompted the officials to call it the day. When the action would down, 2008 WPT Borgata champion Vivek Rajkumar held the largest stack, which weighed in at 3.2 million chips.

Jason DeWitt, the start of the day chip leader, played well too and although he got bumped off the top spot, he still finished with a healthy stack of 1.9 million chips.
DeWitt’s most significant pot came when his K-high flush got the better of whatever Shannon Shorr had after 700k chips had been pushed into the middle.

Michael Mizrachi had sailed into the money on the previous day, but his luck and stack ran out on Day 4. Other ‘name’ pros who won’t be returning on day 5 are Joe Hachem, Mike Sowers and Daniel Alaei.
Rajkumar’s ride to the top wasn’t exactly smooth sailing. He may well have ended up among the above casualties, had Lady Luck decided against him during level 22, when he shoved all his chips into the middle with K,K against James Carroll’s pocket 10s. The miracle card never came for Carroll though and thus Rajkumar not only survived, he did so on a monster stack. The two tangled again afterwards, and it was yet again Rajkumar who came away with the win, further building his stack.
