WPT LA Poker Classic – Day 5 Report

The 5th day of the WPT’s LA Poker Classic saw 18 players return to the tables of the Commerce Casino. The goal for the day was for the remaining field to play down to the final table, and that’s exactly what they achieved. The day was called when the official 6-handed final table was set. Sean Jazayeri had the largest stack of chips at the end of the hostilities. Start of the day chip leader Noah Schwartz also made the cut: he finished the day in 3rd place, just behind David Sands, with 3.83 million chips.
Dan Kelly was second in chips when the action kicked off on day 5. He made the final table too, in 4th place.
Shahen Martirosian was the first victim of the day. Soon, Nick Binger and Daniel Idema’s names made the casualty list too, in 17th and in 16th places respectively.
Joe Hachem was still in the running after the first batch of victims departed from the tables, but eventually his time came too: he was bounced in 12th place by none other than the eventual chip leader. Hachem was down to 718k chips when he pushed everything into the middle on a pair of 8s. Jazayeri made the call holding pocket 9s and the Aussie WSOP Main Event champ was pretty much done. The board failed to give him a miracle card and he was eliminated, picking up $60.6k on his way out.

He was followed to the payout booth by Jason DeWitt and Sorel Mizzi. Down to 9 players, Jason Somerville had the lead. He lost it eventually, but he made the final table on a stack which is almost the shortest going into the final stretch. The player whose elimination set the 8-handed stage of the poker tournament was Stephen Chidwick. Chidwick pushed all-in with pocket 9s against Jason Burt’s pocket Js and failed to find any help on the board.
Allen Carter became the official final table bubble-boy when his pocket 8s fell to David Sands’ pocket Js.
