WPT LA Poker Classic – Day 5 Report

The objective on the 5th day of the WPT’s LA Poker Classic was for the remaining field of 18 players to play down to the final table.
The field of 18 which returned on day 5 did not include any of the existing WPT champions, despite the fact that there were no fewer than 43 of them in the initial starting field. The last ex-champion to bite the dust was Noah Schwartz, who was eliminated in 19th place, becoming the last casualty of Day 4.
Toby Lewis was the start of the day chip leader, but he quickly gave up his spot during the first level in fact, to Paul Klann. Klann’s rise to the top was a pretty sudden one: he got involved in a 3-way pot with Jesse Yaginuma and David Tuthill. Klann made a boat to win the hand and to scoop up around 1 million chips.
After his massive score, Klann seemed to take the rest of the day off. He made the final table nonetheless though, in second place, with 3.37 million chips to his name.
Several of the “name” players still in contention at the beginning of the day failed to reach the final table. Blake Barousse was one of these players. He finished 18th, for a $49.6k reward.
Andrew Whitaker bit the dust too: he finished 17th for $49.6k too. Michael Winnett was another victim of the 5th day of the
poker tournament, together with Randy Ohel and Gary Lent. Jeremy Ausmus, himself a chip leader at one point in the event, made it all the way to 12th place. He was eliminated by Tuthill, to pick up $70.9k.
Alex Venovski was eliminated by Paul Volpe next. Volpe went on to finish in the lead with 4.19 million chips.
