WPT LA Poker Classic – Klann Wins

On Thursday, the WPT’s LA Poker Classic wrapped up with Paul Klann’s victory. Klann was rewarded with a $1,004,090 prize for his efforts, after he bested start of the day chip leader Paul Volpe heads-up. Only 6 players returned to the tables on the final day of the poker tournament as Paul Volpe held the largest stack at the table. Klann was well-positioned too, being second in chips.
The first victim of the day was Toby Lewis, who ran his Ah, 10h into Daniel Fuhs’ Ad, 9d. Even though he was a pre-flop favorite to win the hand, a 9 on the flop gave the lead to Fuhs, robbing start of the day short-stack Lewis of his tournament life. Lewis picked up $193.5k for his 6th place.
The next player to go was David Fong, whose pocket Qs lost a classic coin-flip to Fuhs’ A,Ko.
Even though he was the one responsible for the first two eliminations of the final table, Fuhs couldn’t put the chips he picked up to good use. He was the next player to bite the dust. He earned a $316.6k reward for his 4th place effort.

The player whose elimination set up the heads-up stage of the event was Jesse Yaginuma. In his final hand, Yaginuma saw his Q,Jo go up against Volpe’s A,10o. The board did give him a gutshot straight draw, but it failed to fill up and thus the final dash of the event was set as a heads-up race between Volpe and Klann. Yaginuma picked up $429.8k for his 3rd place.

When the heads-up action kicked off, Volpe had the chip lead over Klann, but his advantage wouldn’t last. Klann caught up relatively quickly and eventually turned the tables for good, when his Qh, 5h bested Volpe’s 10,9o in the last hand of the event.
