WPT Legends of Poker – Day 2 Report

PokerStars player JC Tran started the second day of the 2011 WPT Legends of Poker with the largest stack of chips and he wasted little time trying to add some more to it. In the beginning, he was successful and his stack reached the 400k mark at one point. From there on out though, he hit snag after snag and at the end of the day, he had only 176k chips bagged.
When the storm subsided, Ken Aldridge emerged as the chip leader. He accumulated 659.5k chips, just a tad more than Cody Slaubaugh, who had 658.8k bagged at the end of the day.
There were only two more players who managed to surpass the 500k mark: Matt Berkey and Will Failla.

Nam Le, a good friend of start of the day chip leader JC Tran, was eliminated on Day 2. Other noteworthy eliminations were those of Dan Shak, Ali Eslami, Barry Greenstein and Scott Clements. The attrition didn’t spare the former WPT champions either. Taylor von Kriegenbergh, Joe Bartholdi and Andy Frankenberger all bit the dust too.
Bartholdi was the one at least partially responsible for Cody Slaubaugh’s rise: he donated a huge pot to Slaubaugh upon his elimination.
The money went all-in before the flop in the hand in question, as Bartholdi tabled A,K against Slaubaugh’s pocket 9s. The flop fell A,9,3. The turn and the river changed nothing and Bartholdi was eliminated.
Slaubaugh continued to add to his stack afterwards, all through the remainder of the day.
Dwyte Pilgrim, the winner of the largest ever WPT event, had a good day too and he finished on a healthy stack. Other players to advance to day 3 on decent-size stacks were: Gavin Smith, Ray Henson, Alec Torelli and Allan Kessler. Tom Braband finished 5th and James Carroll made the top 10 too, in 8th place.

With the money bubble set for 81st place, the survivors will certainly have something to play for on Day 3.
