WPT Legends of Poker – Day 3 Report

Day 3 of the WPT’s Legends of Poker Main Event carried special significance: the money bubble was scheduled to burst on Day 3. Needless to say, all 84 players who bellied up to the tables at the beginning of the day did so with their eyes on the bubble. The bubble was set for 64rd place, so it was reached pretty quickly. The surviving field just returned from its second break when the inevitable came about: Elio Fox was the first one to shove all-in from the hijack position. Yevgeniy Timoshenko was on the button and he wasn’t going to allow anyone to push him around. He made the call and tables pocket rockets against Fox’s 10h,Jh. The board didn’t hit either hand and thus Fox was sent to the rail, in possession of the rather dubious bubble-boy title.

From there on out, with everyone guaranteed at least $7.5k, things loosened up a bit again. Matt Keikoan fell victim to the post-bubble action, when he dropped out of the poker tournament in 52nd place, for an $8.2k reward. Dwyte Pilgrim made it a bit further, but he too was forced to settle with a relatively flimsy prize of $11.1k. Having busted out in 36th, Pilgrim was followed to the rail by Isaac Baron in 34th place and Erick Lindgren in 33rd. Yevgeniy Timoshenko lost his tournament life too, in 25th place, picking up $13.4k for his efforts.

The one who clinched the chip lead at the end of the day was Cyrus Farzad, who built a stack of 2.6 million chips. At one point in the day, he had a truly massive lead over the opposition, but he lost about 1 million chips and still managed to finish on top. Greg Mueller had a great day too: he finished 2nd, with almost 2.4 million chips. Jeff Madsen finished the day in 4th while Max Steinberg finished 5th.
